International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

IELTS is one of the English language testing systems designed to help people work, study or migrate to a country where English is the native language. e.g. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK and the USA. The ability of speaking, listening, reading and writing in English will be assessed during the IELTS Test.

  • Academic - For studying in abroad
  • General - For working in abroad.

Test Duration (2 H : 45 MIN)

  • Listening - 30 min
  • Reading - 60 min
  • Writing - 60 min
  • Speaking - 15 min

Scoring System

The scoring of IELTS is from 1 to 9 bands. Each skill in the IELTS will be scored from 1 to 9 bands and an overall score will be given on an average of 4 skills.

  • Average = 23/4 = 6 BANDS

Scoring Method

Listening

There will be 40 questions in the listening section. Each correct answer will get one mark. Scores out of 40 are converted to the IELTS 9 Band scale. Example: 35 out of 40 will get 8 Bands. (35/40= 0.88 x 9 Bands = 8 Bands)

Reading

There will be 40 questions in the Reading section. Each correct answer will get one mark. Scores out of 40 are converted to the IELTS 9 Band scale.

Writing

The scoring will be given based on the assessment criteria as follows:

  • Task achievement (For Task 1) & Task response (For Task 2)
  • Coherence and cohesion
  • Lexical response
  • Grammatical range & accuracy.

Preparation Tips

  • Listening: Podcast, Hollywood movies (with / without subtitles)
  • Reading: Journals, Newspaper
  • Writing: Summarize something
  • Speaking: Speak with friends, Talk to the mirror.
    Ex: Speaking 15mins for 30mins improves pronunciation. Learn 4 vocabularies per day and apply in your daily conversations.
